Summer NAMM 2014

For the first time, I (along with my son) went to Summer NAMM 2014 in Nashville… and it was AMAZING! It was like being in the best, coolest music store ever. I was looking for equipment for my church, but also made it over to a few luthiers and pedal makers.

My favs:

Ubermut Pedals - a really great pedal that allows you to design your own sound in one enclosure.

Henretta Engineering - the best small pedals out there today. They sound great!

King Blossom Guitars - I'm not sure how to describe these. They are very unique and great to play. The feel is awesome and the sound matches it. Jeff (the builder) was great to talk with.

Whitfill Guitars - these are mainly Tele's (which I happen to like very much); they play great; sound awesome. I played one model with P90s in it that made me giggle like a school girl. Tone that made me blush! If I'd had the money, I'd would have bought it on the spot.

If you can ever get to NAMM in Winter or Summer, GO. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that I couldn't go to it for all three days.

WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST YEAR

Has been a while since posting, but haven't been still at all when it comes to building new pedals. Here is a sampling.

A vibe pedal, with mods. Pretty cool pedal from Guitar PCB.

This is based on the Love-ly pedal. I changed the transistors in it to my satisfaction. The small knobs are gain for two separate overdrives; the big knob is a blend. Some nice overdrive/fuzzy sounds.

Another favorite. (Obviously, since this one has seen some use!) It's based on the BJFe Sweet Honey. I changed a few components in it. Overall, a great pedal, and very similar to the Hunny House. Love it with my Tele and Strat.
This one also glows in the dark!

Another pedal from GuitarPCB. This one allows you to select two separate frequencies (like a cocked way sound, and to add clipping to those frequencies. Works great with bass guitar. Can also make a Big Muff sound like an Octavia. Pretty cool stuff!

A bucket brigade delay pedal. The warp mod allows you to make pedal oscillate for as long as  you want.

Based on the Bearf**t Honey Bee. Has a choice of clippers. One of my favorites.

You know the pedal. My absolute favorite pedal I've built. I've A/B'd it against the real deal. This one is a tad warmer.

This is a modified Rat with three clipping choices and a mid-frequency boost (Lube) in order to get more tonal options.

SOLD This is a modified Big Muff, with selectable buffer caps for the first two buffer stages, three different clippers, and a Tone Bender mod that takes out two of the four gain stages, which essentially makes the pedal a Tone Bender.

All of these can be made/bought/sold, so if you like something you see, contact me/leave a comment. My prices are stupid, they are so low. I love making these. Would love to make you one!

Pop-less LED circuit

Here's a vero for a "pop"-less LED circuit, for those pesky pedals that pop (due to the LED) when you turn them on. I was having trouble with a Fuzz Face-type circuit, so I tried this out. It works great!

Here's a vero for it. Takes up very little room inside enclosure as an add on, or you can add it to a vero.

The original schematic can be found at AMZ.

DynaRed (modified)

Another pedal (another sale/SOLD).

Hand-painted, Dynamic Red (a modified DynaRed from the BJFE line and Smallbear FX). Great for saturated, 80s hair band, distortion. (Can't remember where I got the hero, but there is one at Guitar FX Layouts, sans mods.)

New Build - Pumped Up Rangemaster

Recently built a Pumped Up Rangemaster, using GuitarPCB.com's pcb. Liked it so much, I built a second one.

One change from original specs is that I used a germanium transistor with a higher hFE (113 for #1 and 115 for #2) than the original Rangemaster (hFE=60-90). I like the hotter, grittier sound of the hotter trannie.

In addition to level knob, there is a 3-way tone switch (treble, fat, full). Treble is great for solos; for chording, I like the other tone settings, depending on the guitar/pups being used.

FUZZ and KLONDIKE

Some newer pedals:

This is the SPITIN' FIRE FUZZ (you can figure out the original it is a clone of.) I like it a lot; plays well with your guitar's volume knob. Pedal was hand painted.  SOLD

Another clone. Built and sold. One of my favorite pedals ever. I A/B'd it against an original; like mine better :). Much warmer. I put blue knobs on it. Sweet! Ended up building another one for myself. (the O has a blue LED in it.)

MORE PEDAL BUILD PIX

Some more photos and descriptions of pedals that I've built over the past year or so. They are all available for sale. (I can always build another one, right? :)

As you can see, I like each pedal to be unique. Some are decals, some are hand-painted.
If you ever need an enclosure painted/designed, let me know. We can negotiate price.

Enjoy.
Play it loud!

The B.Looper - a true bypass, send/return pedal that allows user to blend the loop signal with the original incoming signal. Great for bassists who want to add a bit of an effect, yet keep a clean low end, or for chicken-pickers who want to add a touch of grit. This pedal is #001. Has a yellow LED. SOLD
DISt ONE - an overdrive/distortion pedal. Has symmetrical and asymmetrical diode clipping (via switch).  SOLD
OBD (“One Bad Dog”) - my favorite booster so far, based on the SHO pedal. This is #002. Both eyes light up when engaged. (NOT for sale; currently on my pedalboard.)

A double passive Volume box - hand painted to look like the buyer’s tiger striped green PRS guitar. Bi-color LED tells which volume is on. Allows user to preset two volumes (lead and rhythm) and change with touch of foot. (SOLD)

the AniMALL - a OD/Distortion pedal based on the extinct WH Red Llama (look close at the name on the pedal - you can figure it out :) SOLD
OBD prototype - housed in a metal circuit box from Lowes. (SOLD)

A/B Pedal - this is a refurbished DOD pedal. I added LEDs and a power source, refurbed the jacks, and repainted.
